Get to know our pretty little thing: Tara

What inspired you to become a model?

I was actually so surprised when the  J’adore team scouted me in Topshop. I didn’t really think too much about it, I thought I’d give it a go and I’m so glad I did. They literally got me working within a couple of weeks and I’ve never looked back! I’ve always been really into fashion and it feels so good being involved with it in so many different ways. I get to see how the industry works from behind the scenes, it’s a real privilege! I think the advice and support that J’adore have given me has definitely given me the confidence to just go for it!

What were your biggest fears about joining the industry and how do you feel now?

I was kind of nervous about the people I’d be working with and whether or not I’d fit in. It’s definitely scary to jump into an industry that’s always changing and developing. I thought that negative feedback and criticism at castings would be my downfall but everyone’s actually really lovely and you just learn to block out the bad and learn from what you hear.

What tips would you give to someone looking to start out their modelling career?

Even if you don’t live in a big city there are always creative people around you – sometimes it’s hard to find people who are on the same wavelength as you but I think once you do, you definitely hold on to it. Trust is super important in this industry and trusting your agency means you’re constantly supported. Also, I think it’s really important to stay true to your own style and express yourself as much as possible, because that’s what really resonates with people who are looking for models. Put yourself out there!

What’s been your favourite modelling job so far?

Obviously my fave is Pretty Little Thing. ,.,They have the best team, concepts and styling. Also my most recent work with UNIK clothing was ace. The clothes were super cool and the shoot location was like a big indoor rain forest,  which was gorgeous and it was pretty good not to be freezing during a shoot 😉

Are you planning on going to any festivals this year?

Yes! I’m going to Gottwood in Wales, which I’m excited about, it looks really cool and has a magical Foresty vibe. I also want to go to Lost Village later in the summer. I’m basically just going to try and fit in as much as possible in between work and travelling. Actually that reminds me, I need to start shopping for outfits!!!
What is the best book you’ve read or fave film you’ve watched recently?
I’m really into crime/mystery novels lately, like Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and other bits by Ben Elton. I’m always reading Oscar Wilde too. I feel like I haven’t watched a good movie in ages! But re-watched The Incredibles last night, it’s my favourite film ever.
Give us your top tips on staying healthy and looking great.
Everything in moderation. It took me a really long time to be comfortable with my body but I finally feel as though I’ve learnt to cater to my own body and be happy with myself. I eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and when I have pasta or bread I try to always make sure it’s wholewheat. I think it’s just the little things that really have a big effect on your body. It’s fun to exercise, doing something that you love  always helps – my mum’s a dancer so I’ve always loved dancing!
What are your fave fashion trends and brands so far this year?
I like so many looks at the minute. I love dressing up casual clothes, for example, wearing a cool belt and heels with an oversized hoodie, that’s my specialty! I’m loving all the colours in so many Spring collections now too, so bright and bold!
Where can you be found on a weekend?
I’m really into music and art, so if I’m not working I try to get out and go to loads of art shows and gigs. Either that or catching up on sleep!

How do you relax and chill out from a stressful week?
When I get home, I try to not keep looking at pictures from shoots and BTS photos, I feel like it’s easy to obsess over stuff like that. I just put my phone down and hang out with my friends or my boyfriend and it feels good to forget about everything for a night! It’s crazy how much you can fit in to your day if you don’t spend half of it scrolling through Instagram. To relax on a day if I feel stressed about modelling or uni work, I do as much as possible then just put a face mask on and drink some green tea. I’ve also learnt to just give myself a break sometimes – it does get hard balancing studying, working and a social life, so if you want some time to yourself to do nothing. That is totally ok. As long as you’re working hard again the next day.
 What’s your guiltiest pleasure?
Lying on my bed,  listening to old school Drake and eating all the pizza. Your girl needs to be sponsored by Dominos ASAP.
