Model minutes: catching up with our boy Sonny

What better way is there to start a quick catch-up with Sonny than by sharing an embarrassing pic of them as a baby? Prepare to find out more about our total mega babe Sonny in this quick Q&A!

What inspired you to become a model?

The glamour and the big names behind the industry, as well as working with amazing people and amazing brands – you basically get rewarded for being you!! I also want an excuse to eat healthy and look after myself without being questioned why from my mates or anyone, haha!

What were your biggest fears about joining the industry and how do you feel now?

I didn’t really have any fears, I just joined the industry with an open mind and I’m always learning everyday.

What tips would you give to someone looking to start out their modelling career?

One thing I would say to those starting out is to be patient! Nothing worth having happens over night. Being a model is such a rewarding career; it’s so important to enjoy the process and don’t let anything limit you.

What would be your favourite modelling job so far?
In all honesty every job I’ve ever had has been my favourite haha, including the test shoots which are mega important for keeping fresh and relevant. But if I had to pick something it would have to be the fashion weeks! Being able to meet different models from across the world, make friends and experience working with such big names. My favourite would be my last fashion week for Marcelo Burlon in Milan, where I’m represented by Beyond Models.

What did you love most about Milan fashion week?

Everything!!! Literally everything!! Besides the cues at the castings, they were a nightmare!!! But if you don’t get the castings and be patient you don’t get looked at then! That’s why in this industry patience is key, especially including waiting in lines to be seen  along with hundreds! But the after parties were great, rubbing shoulders with all the big names and celebs and walking for such big names too! I loved it all!

What’s your daily skin care routine?

I wash my face with a face wash and then I always moisturise with coconut oil! I believe the less things you put on your skin the better. So just keep it simple. It seems to be working for me! I also drink lots of water and think just eating well, eating green food and just having a positive mental attitude is a great way of looking good.

What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
I don’t usually read, I like to listen to music instead and zone out. It’s super important to get rest when you can in this industry as things can so often be on the go. I love the 90’s RnB the likes of 2pac, Biggie, Aaliyah, SWV, TLC, Soul for Real and old school Mariah Carey.

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

My guilty pleasure is definitely chocolate croissants! I can eat millions of them in one sitting, only I try eat healthy so it’s really hard when they taste so nice! When I’m not eating too badly my fave food would have to be Ackee & Saltfish with Rice and Kidney Beans with some fried dumplings on the side!

When did you last tell a white lie?

You might not believe this but I really don’t like to lie, I believe in karma too much and wouldn’t like to be on the end of a white lie either haha. I just tend to be upfront and transparent and it makes life a lot easier.

What were you like at school and were you always planning on becoming a model?

At school I wanted to become a professional boxer and having that drive kept me focused I think. I was always level headed, always ate properly. I always showed good manners and was very respectful and I put it down to being involved in such a disciplined sport from a very young age, in which I went on to compete and then become a model after adopting the nickname ‘Pretty Boy’ from my friends as I was a bit too glamorous for the sport I think, haha.
