Model Minutes: Rae in Paris

After jetting off to Paris to play a superstars (pretend) gorgeous girlfriend, we had chance to grab a little catch up with the gorgeous Rae. Rae recently arrived home from one of the crazy fun jobs going – appearing in the new Courteeners video ‘Modern Love’. (Jel or what) Rae spoke to us about the current in’s and out’s of her life, balancing Uni and modelling and her odd food combinations.

What inspired you to become a model?

I wanted to experience something new! I love fashion and being in front of a camera, being a model has really brought out my confidence and it’s such a great opportunity to meet new amazingly talented people who have similar passions and interests.

What were your biggest fears about joining the industry and how do you feel now?

My biggest fear about becoming a model was how I was going to get around from place to place. I’m so rubbish with Google maps and any type of direction – ironic really being a model! The first time I went down to London for a job, I cried pretty much the whole time I was there because I just couldn’t find my way around at all. Even now after a year of modelling I still have the fear of getting lost, I just now make sure I set off way earlier so that if I do get lost, I wont be late!

What’s the biggest myth about models?

The biggest myth would have to be that you have to be super tall and skinny but that’s just not the way the industry works now. The industry has developed and caters for every size, shape, ethnicity, so they need the models who reflect all of these qualities – I love that the modelling industry is now built upon diversity.

What tips would you give someone starting out their modelling career?

I would say never give up. If modelling is the thing you want to do most in the world keep going and you will get there – it’s like anything you’ll get better with practice. You’re not going to fit every clients/ agencies look or brief so never put yourself down or think you’re not good enough, you are! Everyone is unique and individual in their own way so never compare yourself. Another tip would be to test, test, test it’s the best way to keep your look fresh and shows potential new clients what you have to offer.

What would be your personal favourite job so far?

My favourite job so far has to be my most recent one. I was lucky enough to be the main girl in the new Courteeners music video and even better it was shot in Paris! It was super scary catching a flight on my own but I did it and my god wasn’t it worth it. The whole story of the video was based on a being the girlfriend of the lead singer, on a night out but reversed instead. We went to cool locations around Paris and basically just had as much fun as possible – everything in the video is incredibly authentic to the experience. Paris is one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited and it was, a hundred percent, the experience of a lifetime.

What was the most random thing you got up to in Paris?

I think the craziest thing I had to do was pretend to have an argument with the camera man in the middle of the street. I had to scream at him and throw a tantrum and everyone, I mean everyone, was looking at me haha. Not going to lie I loved it!

How do you relax after a busy day?

Balancing modelling and University has been pretty stressful especially coming to the end of Uni but I made it! To chill out and relax I listen to whale sounds, it’s so therapeutic (I know very weird). I also like a nice warm bath with candles and a face mask  – whilst listening to the whale sounds haha! 🙂

Give us your top tips on staying healthy and looking great:

– Drink lots of water, you wouldn’t believe the wonders it does for your skin and just energy.

–  The Victoria’s Secret work out is insanely helpful. I do it nearly everyday and you have no excuses as you can just do it in your living room too.

– Lots of fresh air & lots of Vitamin D

What is your guiltiest pleasure?

My guiltiest pleasure would definitely be eating crisps and chocolate…together. It tastes incredible, don’t knock it before you try it!
