Model minutes: Tom

The coolest guy in town popped in for some new polaroids and a little chat. Read on to find out more about Tom, his journey as an unexpected model and incredible hobby!

What inspired you to become a model?

I’d have to say my girlfriend. She’s a photographer. I’ve always had the interest from looking at pictures she’s taken. I would have loved to have studied photography and do it myself  but I was never really good at it. I think that’s why I was drawn to modelling. I love just being part of an image –  the money helps too!

What were your biggest fears about joining the industry and how do you feel now?

I wasn’t really scared at all to be honest. I think my main worry was being screwed over by a fake agency, or being part of an agency that just gets you to invest loads in yourself but doesn’t give you the help and guidance for it to pay off.  J’adore have guided me the whole way and always have the newest, freshest brands always wanting to work with them.

What would be your favourite modelling job so far?

Probably going to London for Phix Clothing. Their overall aesthetic is so cool and right down my street. Also my guys at The Fucked Life THFKDLF; they’re both super cool lads and from my hometown, Wrexham – so we always have hometown banter.

Are you planning on going to any festivals this year?

Yes, I have tickets to Primavera Sound in Barcelona again. I’ve not been for ages, but it was sick the last time I went.

What’s the best book you’ve read or fave film you’ve watched recently?

I don’t read too often but probably Animal farm by George Orwell. It sounds like a kid’s book but definitely far from it. It’s all about communism and the Stalinist era, all very serious. My favourite film at the moment would probably have to go to Goodfellas. I’d never seen in before but it’s sick – I want to be a gangster now!

What’s your guiltiest pleasure?

When did you last tell a white lie?

Don’t know… probably a few hours ago. I lose track.

What’s your favourite food?

Changes on a daily basis really, but if I had to choose, chicken Pathia with lemon rice.

What are your fave fashion trends and brands so far this year?

I like the Supreme and Louis Vuitton  clash, such a cool concept. Apart from that I’m not really into following trends. I just sort of wear what I like.

What were you like at school and were you always planning on becoming a model?

I definitely had no plans to become a model. I was super quiet at school and a bit of a geek. Lets just say if 16 year old me could see me now, he’d be in complete shock.

What’s the biggest myth about models?

Arrogance –  Models have an automatic stereotype of being arrogant. It’s not like that at all. Most models I’ve met over my time with J’adore are overly humble because a lot of time they feel like they’ve been judged before people have even met them.

What’s your fave hobby?

My hobby is definitely art. I draw stitch – it’s a bit hard to explain but I draw with a sewing machine. Check it out 🙂

Where can you be found on a weekend?

It varies but probably in The Pint Pot in Salford, sipping a shipyard IPA- ahhhh could do with one right now.

What tips would you give to someone looking to start out their modelling career?

I would say except the bad with the good. Not every picture of you is going to look good, but you’ve got to loosen up and learn from each bad shot. Also trust in your agency’s vision for you – J’adore know what works for me and help me develop constantly. Some of the images for your portfolio might not be your fave selects to you, but they work so well and cover a range of styles for different clients.
